My journey started as a very small boy with an orange shirt sporting a tiger on it. Little did I know that I had taken my first steps in a life full of outdoor adventures. I would grow and advance from a Tiger Cub to wear the blue shirt of a Cub Scout. Before long I would achieve the honor of Eagle Scout the highest rank in the Boy Scouts.
During the middle of my Cub Scout days I was diagnosed with Acute lymphocytic leukemia. At the age of 10 I was catapulted into a world that would change me forever. Less than one year after my diagnosis, I had received the news that I defeated my cancer. It was the greatest victory of my life to date, however, preventative treatments were still needed for several years to follow.
I am currently a web designer / developer in Kansas City where I spend my time being creative behind a desk waiting for that next nice weekend to head out on the local trails. With Kansas and Missouri not having mountains the call from the mountains is always in the background of my mind.
This summer I will be attending Philmont Scout Ranch where a group of 11 adults and boys will hike 50+ miles in 12 days in the back country of New Mexico. In the spring 0f 2013 I will say goodbye to my day job and begin my Thru-hike of the Appalachian trail. While on the AT I will pause my thru-hike to fly out to California to hike the John Muir trail in the summer of 2013 with a whole group of fellow backpackers who all met on twitter. Then its back to complete the AT.
